ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ty Majeski picked up right where he ended last season Tuesday at Rockingham Speedway.
Majeski was the fastest driver overall during four hours of organizational testing at the historic one-mile oval, which will welcome the Truck Series back for the first time since 2013 on Easter weekend this spring.
Wheeling the No. 98 Ford F-150, Majeski’s best lap of 75 across four one-hour time blocks Tuesday was 21.983 seconds (166.547 mph), a time more than three full seconds and nearly 20 miles per hour faster than the existing Truck Series track record held by Jeb Burton.
After the day ended, Majeski was matter of fact about the blistering speeds seen throughout the day.
“We’re definitely hauling ass here, there’s no doubt about it,” he told reporters.
Kaden Honeycutt, who will contest his first full Truck Series season with Niece Motorsports this year, ranked second on single lap pace at 22.318 seconds (164.047 mph) in the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST.
The Front Row Motorsports duo of Layne Riggs (22.428/163.242) and Chandler Smith (22.435/163.191) were third and fourth, respectively, on the time charts ahead of Majeski’s ThorSport Racing teammate Jake Garcia (22.444/163.126).
Niece Motorsports’ Matt Mills was sixth overall on the day, followed by TRICON Garage’s Corey Heim, Spire Motorsports’ Rajah Caruth, TRICON rookie Gio Ruggiero, and two-time Truck Series champion Ben Rhodes, giving ThorSport Racing three of the top 10 trucks in Tuesday testing.
Luke Fenhaus was in a fourth ThorSport truck and ended the day 13th of 31 drivers who turned laps.
McAnally-Hilgemann Racing veteran Tyler Ankrum made the most laps of anyone Tuesday, with 137.
Testing is slated to continue Wednesday due to a rain delay that postponed the start of Tuesday’s track time. On-track action will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with grandstand admission free to fans.
Meanwhile, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to Rockingham Friday, April 18 during the Easter holiday weekend for the Black’s Tire 200, the first series event at The Rock since April of 2013.
Broadcast coverage is slated for 5 p.m. ET on FS1, the Motor Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
