FORT WORTH, Texas – Anthony Alfredo and Young’s Motorsports head to Texas Motor Speedway with momentum in their pocket after a season-best sixth-place finish last time out with the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Alfredo will tackle the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at the 1.5-mile Lone Star State quad-oval fresh off his third straight top 15, which came at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in the draft and provided a spring highlight for the No. 42 Chevrolet team.

The Ridgefield, Conn., driver found a run on the final lap at Talladega that propelled him into the top 10, and had it not been for a final-lap incident that froze the field under caution a half lap from the finish line, Alfredo felt he could have even finished higher – if not made a bid for the victory.

“I don’t want to be greedy because of how this season has started, but it was pretty gut-wrenching to be just a few inches from a top five (at Talladega),” Alfredo reflected. “In all honesty, if we were able to race all the way back to the line, I felt like I put us in a perfect position to have a shot to win.

“It wasn’t in the cards, but we will gladly take our top 10 finish and head to Texas with a lot more confidence.”

The 11th race of the Xfinity Series campaign continued a recent surge of consistency for the Young’s Motorsports Xfinity Series program. Since April 12, Alfredo has risen from 26th in the regular season standings into a tie for 22nd place, even with Parker Retzlaff of Alpha Prime Racing.

Now sitting just 20 points outside the top 20, Alfredo has reason to believe that his group is on the right upward trajectory to make a summer push toward their ultimate goal: the Xfinity Series playoffs.

“Nothing has changed within our team,” Alfredo pointed out. “The mission that we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year is still ahead of us. We want to win a regular-season race and make the playoffs.

“It’s taken us longer than we hoped – for various reasons – but I do think we’re starting to hit our stride and find the pieces we need to contend at the tracks that suit our strengths.”

While Texas is still relatively new to the Young’s Xfinity Series program, with the team’s first Xfinity start there coming last season, the organization has more than 30 Truck Series appearances in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

In addition, Alfredo’s career-best Xfinity Series finish of third came at Texas in the fall of 2020, while driving for Richard Childress Racing in a part-time effort that year.

That alone is one reason Alfredo enjoys competing there, in addition to the unique challenges the racetrack presents drivers.

“I enjoy racing at Texas Motor Speedway because it is a technical track and fits my driving style,” he explained. “Track position will be the name of the game this weekend. Starting toward the front and remaining there throughout the day will be critical. If we don’t have track position, an alternate strategy to get us in late in the race will be important.

“We have been struggling with qualifying well lately, but we do have some things to try in order to improve our starting position this weekend that we hope will help us be ahead at the start,” Alfredo added. “If we can do that, and then execute throughout the day, I feel like we’re capable of continuing to run among the top 15 just like we have in the past three races.”

With one pole, five top-five, and 23 top-10 finishes in his 129 career Xfinity Series starts, Alfredo has a career average finish of 19.6. If he can maintain or better that number Saturday, it would further lower Young’s Motorsports’ season average of 23rd and allow the team to continue pushing forward.

“Another top 15 finish would be great for our team,” Alfredo said. “We have a lot going for us coming into this race, and I’m looking forward to performing at a high level.”

Alfredo will have Texas-based Young’s Building Systems and Randco Industries aboard his No. 42 Chevrolet for Saturday’s outing. Family-owned and operated since 1981, Young’s Building Systems provides West Texas customers with all their metal building needs.

In addition to commercial, residential, agricultural, industrial, skid-mounted buildings and compressor station buildings, Young’s Building Systems also specializes in stairs and railings of all shapes and sizes.

Broadcast coverage of the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 is slated for Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. ET, live on The CW, the Performance Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
