BROOKLYN, Mich. – In a surprise silly season shake-up, Haas Factory team announced Saturday morning that Sam Mayer has signed a multi-year contract with the organization.

The 21-year-old will be a teammate to Sheldon Creed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series starting next season.

Mayer, who currently drives for JR Motorsports, will take the reins of the renumbered No. 41 Ford Mustang as the car shifts to match the brand identity of its NASCAR Cup Series counterpart.

A six-time Xfinity Series race winner, including twice already this year, Mayer is locked in for his third straight playoff appearance after making the Championship 4 last season and finishing third in points.

The Franklin, Wis., native earned back-to-back ARCA Menards Series East championships in 2019-’20 prior to turning 18 and jumping into a partial Xfinity Series schedule with JRM in June of 2021.

After being rumored throughout the summer to be looking for a NASCAR Cup Series opportunity, Mayer said his agreement with Haas Factory Team will best prepare him to eventually make that leap to the top level of the sport.

“The Xfinity Series is a really great place to learn and grow and get yourself ready for the NASCAR Cup Series,” Mayer said. “Cup is my ultimate goal, and to really push myself to become the kind of driver who can succeed in Cup, I needed to get out of my comfort zone, challenge myself, and hone my race skills so that when that Cup moment comes, I’m ready.

“The Haas team got Cole Custer ready for his moment and it’s a place that will help get me and Sheldon ready for our [own] moments.”

Crew chief and sponsor information for Mayer will be announced at a later date.

The 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and Mayer’s tenure with Haas Factory Team, will begin Saturday, Feb. 15 with the traditional points opener at Daytona (Fla.) Int’l Speedway.
