Corey Heim Snags Homestead Truck Series Pole
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – For all of Corey Heim’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series accolades this season, Friday’s qualifying session at Homestead-Miami Speedway produced one he hadn’t yet accomplished in 2024.
Heim sped to his first Truck Series pole of the season ahead of the Baptist Health 200, turning a lap of 32.715 seconds (165.062 mph) around the 1.5-mile oval in the No. 11 Safelite Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.
In earning the seventh pole of his Truck Series career, Heim put himself out front to start Saturday’s Baptist Health 200, the middle race of the Round of 8 in the playoffs and a critical step toward Heim locking himself into the Championship 4.
Heim enters Homestead 30 points above the elimination line with two races remaining in the semifinal round, but three of his six wins this season have come on intermediate-style racetracks, making the 22-year-old the arguable favorite to win his way into the title decider.
“It’s nice to finally get a pole in qualifying, but we know the job’s only half done,” noted Heim. “We have to turn this into a win Saturday to give ourselves another chance to win a championship, and I know this TRICON Garage team is capable of doing just that. We’ve had speed all year and I don’t expect that to be any different here at Homestead. If we can execute, we should be in position to accomplish our goals.”
Joining Heim on the front row will be his TRICON teammate Taylor Gray, who qualified second with a lap of 32.789 seconds (164.689 mph) in the No. 17 Place of Hope Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.
Spire Motorsports’ Rajah Caruth and Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez timed in third and fourth, respectively, with ThorSport Racing’s Ty Majeski following as playoff drivers swept the first five starting spots.
Niece Motorsports’ Kaden Honeycutt, who will go full time with the organization in the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST next year, was the best of the non-playoff drivers in qualifying and will start sixth.
Daniel Dye, Christian Eckes, Talladega winner Grant Enfinger, and Connor Mosack closed out the top 10 in time trials.
Tyler Ankrum was the only playoff driver who qualified outside the top 10 and rolls off 15th for Saturday’s race.
Other notables deeper in the field include Connor Zilisch (16th), two-time series champion Ben Rhodes (19th), rookies William Sawalich (20th) and Corey Day (21st), and Indy car stars Conor Daly (28th) and Marco Andretti (30th).
With only 34 trucks entered, no drivers failed to make the show, though Tanner Gray and Spencer Boyd were unable to turn a lap and will start 33rd and 34th, respectively.
Broadcast coverage of Saturday’s Baptist Health 200 is slated for noon ET on FS1, the Motor Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
