CORDELE, Ga. – Four-time Cordele Motor Speedway track champion and Legend car standout Cole Denton added another victory to his tally at his home racetrack over the weekend.
In a combined Semi-Pro, Charger, and Young Lions division feature at the three-eighths-mile paved oval, Denton qualified on the pole and led from start to finish in the 20-lapper for his third win of the season.
Denton bested 20 other drivers and had already opened up a one-second advantage when the caution flag waved over the main event.
Even the field being bunched up behind him couldn’t stop the Mississippi teenager, however, as he raced back away with his green-and-yellow No. 46 when full-speed racing returned.
Denton’s longtime friend and rival Bryce Sanders got to second on that restart and chased him the rest of the way, but the 14-year-old Denton fended Sanders off at every advance.
In the end, Denton took the checkered flag in front by a slim .193-second margin over Sanders, with Ian Hampton, Carson Youngblood, and Dylan Bongiovanni filling out the top five finishers.
“Any time you can have a fierce battle like Bryce and I did at the end, it’s always a ton of fun,” Denton said. “We’ve raced each other long enough that I feel like I know a lot of his moves, but he knows a lot of mine and how I try to defend too, so it’s kind of about trying to outsmart each other and figure out something that the other one isn’t expecting.
“Getting to victory lane at Cordele is fun no matter when we do it; it’s always great to celebrate in front of the loyal fans that have been so supportive of me the past few years racing there.”
Denton would like to thank 77 Speed Shop, Matt Jones Motorsports, Race Face Brand Development, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Myers Construction Co., and City Chevrolet for their continued partnership and support of his racing efforts.
About Cole Denton Racing
Nicolas “Cole” Denton is a 14-year-old Gulf South racer with dreams of racing at the top level of stock car racing. From Pascagoula, Miss., Denton began racing go-karts at the age of four and advanced into Bandoleros by the time he was eight years old, where his racing brand and nickname were born.
It was in Bandoleros where Denton, a fan of the iconic racing movie Days of Thunder, adopted the No. 46 as his car number and stylized his Bandolero scheme in black and neon green – akin to the same Mello Yello colors that Tom Cruise’s character Cole Trickle campaigned in the 1990 film.
Denton quickly picked up the nickname “Cole Trickle” at his races, and the persona stuck as his racing stock climbed, leading him to continue racing under the name Cole as he advanced and found success.
His breakout season came in 2022, when Denton accrued 40 wins and 59 podium finishes in 62 starts en route to the INEX Bandolero national championship, leading him into his first year in Legend cars last season.
Away from the driver’s seat, Denton is an avid iRacer, cyclist, and push scooter racer. He also practices flying on a flight simulator and attends both local and NASCAR races as his schedule permits.
