DACONO, Colo. – Cassidy Hinds fought through damage in Saturday’s ‘General Air Fourth of July in June’ 76-lap super late model special at Colorado National Speedway to finish seventh.
After qualifying sixth and posting a seventh-place finish in the pre-race ‘Fast Dash’, Hinds lined up seventh for the Independence 76, but was swept up in an early accident that left her No. 3c Friends of Jaclyn Ford damaged in both the front and the rear.
Quick crew repairs allowed Hinds to continue, but at an aero deficiency with much of her car’s front bodywork removed. Still, however, Hinds had enough pace to keep up with the leaders late in the run.
Her seventh-place result gave Hinds confidence that she had a top-five capable car had it not been for the crash that she was involved in close to the start.
“We struggled through all three practice sessions trying to get the car to handle well, and the good news was that we finally found some speed for qualifying. Qualifying sixth gave us solid position for the fast dash, but a radio harness issue set us back a bit there and then lined us up seventh for the main,” Hinds reflected. “It only took about five laps in the main before things got a bit crazy, because there was a pile up and I had nowhere to go. I got hit in the front and the back, and it forced us off track so my crew to rip the front end off the car to get me back out.
“Finishing seventh wasn’t what we necessarily wanted, mainly because I was still able to keep up with the leaders by the end of the race,” she added. “I think if I wouldn’t have gotten tangled up in the accident that I could’ve been a front runner the whole race. Overall, the race day was eventful and frustrating, but also lighthearted because we could just have fun. That always matters to our team.
Hinds remains in the fight for a top-five position in the CNS point standings heading into the month of July, hoping to continue gaining momentum to be able to battle for the track championship.
Hinds would like to thank marketing partners Frontier Restoration, Leary’s Shock Shop, Fort Worth Screen Printing, Commit 2 Fitness, Pineapple Pump Project, MATCO Tools, Puzzle Effects, Buckeye Welding, 5280 Pit Lighting, and the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation for their support of her racing efforts.
The next super late model race at Colorado National Speedway is Saturday, July 12 as part of GTI Golf Cars Fairway Fury Night at the Races.
