Landon Cox Secures First National Win At Castle Rock

CASTLE ROCK, Wash. – In a memorable trip to the Pacific Northwest, Landon Cox picked up the first NASCAR Youth Series national feature win of his senior-class career at Castle Rock Quarter Midget Club.
The July 25-26 event marked the 11th race of the NASCAR Youth Series season, and it was a breakthrough moment for the 10-year-old Cox, who calls Monroe, Ga., his hometown.
Cox competed in three divisions – Senior Animal, Senior Honda, and Light 160 – during the two-day weekend, and finished on the podium in each class. Senior Animal, however, was the highlight.
After winning his heat race in the division, Cox started fifth in the 40-lap feature and powered his way to the front of the field, ultimately taking the checkered flag first for the biggest win of his quarter midget career to-date.
A runner-up finish in the Senior Honda heat race also locked Cox into that class’ main event, and after starting fourth and getting shuffled backward early in the 40-lapper, the youngster worked his way back forward to a third-place finish.
His road in the Light 160 division was tougher to carve, as Cox landed in the C-Main after heat races and had to work his way through two transfers just to start the main event – which he did.
From there, Cox worked through heavy traffic to a third-place finish in Light 160 action as well, giving himself a perfect slate of podium finishes in the Evergreen State.
The trio of strong results also kept Cox well in contention for the national points championship in all three classes, as he ranks second in the Light 160 standings, second in Senior Honda, and third in Senior Animal with three months to go in the season.
But outside of the points chase, Cox was ecstatic to finally stand on the top step of a podium in national NASCAR Youth Series action, something he’s strived to achieve since his earliest days in a quarter midget.
“It’s a huge deal for us,” said the young Cox. “We’ve put in so much effort, and I can’t thank everyone who’s helped me get to this point enough for all they’ve done. I knew our car was fast – especially when we rolled out for the Senior Animal feature – and it was up to me to keep it clean and get the job done.
“Hopefully this is the first one of many more. It’s already been an amazing season for us.”
Cox also gave a nod to his crew chief, quarter midget graduate and now-late model racer Nick Loden, for mentoring him along the way as he’s pursued even higher goals throughout the season.
“Nick has done so much to teach me and help make me a better race car driver,” noted Cox. “He came through these cars the same way I am now and having someone in my corner who has been there and done what I’m doing really helps. Without him, I’m probably not doing everything we have lately.”
Cox’s national victory at Castle Rock followed on the heels of twin podium finishes at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to kick off the month of July, concluding a hugely successful stretch of major quarter midget events for the young racer.
Landon Cox would like to thank his parents, Danny and Jessica Cox, as well as Race Face Brand Development, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Ultimate QM, Flash Racing Engines, and CB Partners for their support of his quarter midget racing endeavors.
