Quiet Top-15 Provides Needed Boost For Briscoe
LONG POND, Pa. – Chase Briscoe had a quiet yet solid 15th-place run in Sunday’s Great American Getaway 400 presented by VisitPA.com, a needed boost for the 29-year-old.
Just weeks after inking a new deal with Joe Gibbs Racing for 2025, Briscoe has found a bit of a groove in the summer months, finishing second at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and being in contention late at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway before getting shuffled back on a late restart.
Sunday, he bounced back from a 32nd-place effort at the Chicago Street Course a week prior for his best intermediate track result since a top-five at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in May.
“It was kind of a decent day. We weren’t great, really all weekend, from a speed standpoint – like I didn’t think we were going to be good enough to win. But I thought we made our car quite a bit better, truthfully, throughout the weekend, which is really encouraging,” Briscoe said.
“I thought we got the balance pretty good. We just didn’t really have the raw speed like some of the other guys,” Briscoe added. “I thought we kind of maximized our day, for the most part. We were maybe a couple of positions better.
“Overall, it was not a bad day. Not a great day, but not a bad day.”
There is still work to be done for the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing team, however, as they currently sit 18th in the regular season standings in their pursuit of a playoff berth. Briscoe is 75 points behind the 16th-place cutoff line with just five races to go in the regular season.
The Mitchell, Ind., native gets to take on his home track next weekend, as NASCAR returns to the historic 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval for the first time in four years.
Coverage of the 30th anniversary Brickyard 400 begins Sunday, July 21 at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC, the IMS Radio Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
