Rain Forces Cancellation Of Port Royal’s Opening Day

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Officials from Port Royal Speedway announced Friday morning that the March 9 Opening Day program at the half-mile dirt oval has been canceled.

The decision was made due to the persistent rainfall the racetrack took on over the past week, as well as the additional incoming rain forecast for race day that would make conditions untenable for the weekend.

Both the track’s 410 winged sprint cars and super late models were slated for the Saturday program.

The first event of the season for Port Royal will now take place March 15-16, as the Short Track Super Series modifieds invade for the two-day Speed Showcase weekend.

Headlining the event is a Saturday finale that will award the winner of the event a stout $50,000 payday.
