SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. – Clayton Otteau put together his latest standout weekend at Keystone State Quarter Midget Club Saturday, earning a trio of feature victories during the Grim Family Memorial Race to end the month of September.
Otteau’s Krybaby Performance-powered, ConTra Group and Friends of Jaclyn Foundation-backed No. 53 quarter midget was fast from the moment the gates opened, highlighted early by a new track record in the World Formula class during qualifying – breaking his own mark from the recent Corn Roast Race!
Strong time-trial laps sent Otteau directly to three division A-Mains – World Formula, Senior Animal, and Light 160 – and placed him on the front row of the Senior Honda class B-Main to set up a transfer effort.
Otteau won the Senior Honda B-Main going away, earning the seventh starting spot in that division’s 40-lap feature, before going out and winning both the 40-lap World Formula and Senior Animal main events by leading from wire to wire.
Though Otteau started third in the Light 160 feature, he grabbed the lead by lap eight thanks to numerous early cautions that led to single-file restarts. From there, he easily paced the final 33 laps to garner his third victory of the afternoon.
Capping off the outing, Otteau charged from the fourth row of the Senior Honda feature to reach second place by lap 14, though at that point he had a 2.279-second deficit to the lead to trim down.
Otteau closed the gap down to .694 seconds, but just ran out of time to set up a battle for the win. Still, however, it made for a fourth top-two finish in as many races and left Otteau beaming afterward.
“What a great day today,” said Otteau. “It was really nice to get all four cars back on the track after not running too much after nationals. The Honda gearing could have been better for qualifying, but we still held our track records from the Corn [Roast] Race and I’m very happy about that. We tweaked some things on the Formula that were damaged from Nationals, and the car finally showed its potential by setting a new track record and posting some really fast laps in the feature.
“Our Krybaby engines have really been fast all season long, and it’s tremendous to end the month with three more trophies and really feel like we’re riding a wave of momentum coming down toward the finish of the year.”
Also of note, Otteau’s NASCAR Youth Series national season has ended, with a runner-up finish in World Formula points, as well as a tie for fifth place in the overall Senior Animal standings.
Otteau would like to thank Race Face Brand Development, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, The Otteau Group, ConTra Group, Level 10 Development, Esposito Construction, The Werks Barbershop, Hoffman Pediatric Dentistry, Almeida Strategic Investments, Jimmie Phelps’ Mission Impossible Racing, Krybaby Performance, Competition Suspension Inc., Storm Chassis, and Laci Photography for their continued support of his racing endeavors.
About Clayton Otteau
Clayton Otteau is a 12-year-old dirt quarter midget and Junior Sprint racer from Bernardsville, N.J., and first-generation driver with aspirations of climbing the motorsports ladder toward NASCAR competition.
After he began in quarter midgets, he learned that his grandfather drag raced and his great-grandfather competed in a Ford race car on dirt in Pennsylvania, further cementing his love for being behind a steering wheel.
At three years old, Otteau began off-roading in a Power Wheels machine, eventually moving into go-karts by the age of seven. He won his first-ever go-kart race and posted the fastest lap that day, to boot.
He turned eight during his rookie year of quarter midget racing in 2021, graduating to the senior classes the next year in both the Northeast Dirt Series and the USAC.25 Series (now the NASCAR Youth Series).
Otteau is currently competing in four quarter midget classes – Senior Honda, Senior Animal, Light 160, and Light World Formula – in addition to select Junior Sprint races, and away from the racetrack is a supporter of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and its mission to better the lives of children and families affected by pediatric cancer.
