Viking Moves To Full-Time Xfinity Effort With DiBenedetto
DARLINGTON, S.C. - Matt DiBenedetto and Viking Motorsports announced on Thursday their intention to shift to a full-time effort for the remainder of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
The Grass Valley, Calif., native made his debut with the team at Richmond (Va.) Raceway earlier this season, marking his first start in any NASCAR event since departing Rackley W.A.R. following his elimination from last year’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoffs.
A satellite affiliate of RSS Racing, the Don Sackett-owned Viking Motorsports team debuted in the garage at Richmond in March with DiBenedetto as the driver.
Following a top-10 finish (eighth at Talladega Superspeedway) and a respectable average finish of 19.8 to-date, the team will officially kick off its full-time campaign at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway this weekend.
“It’s official,” DiBenedetto said emphatically in his announcement video on X (formerly Twitter).
“Super thankful to be part of this team and I’m really pumped about our future together. Big thanks to Ford and [RSS Racing] for all their support,” DiBenedetto added before closing with a thank you message to fans.
With continued support from RSS Racing and Ford Performance, Viking Motorsports aims to have a consistent presence in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the long haul.
"We are very excited to have Matt join us for the remainder of the 2024 season and (hopefully) beyond," said Sackett. "His skill behind the wheel and his dedication to the sport make him an ideal fit for our team. We believe this partnership will not only elevate our performance on the track but also provide a platform for growth and success in the seasons to come.
"This year holds immense promise for Viking Motorsports, and having Matt lead the charge only amplifies our excitement," added Sackett. "We eagerly anticipate the opportunities that lie ahead and are eager to share this journey with our dedicated fans, partners, and supporters."
DiBenedetto, Viking Motorsports, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series return to the track Saturday afternoon for the Crown Royal Presents the Purple Bag Project 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
Broadcast coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1, the Motor Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
