Kelly’s Bid for Victory Ends One Lap Too Soon at Mobile International Speedway
MOBILE, Ala. (July 12, 2026) — The official results may show a ninth-place finish, but they don't begin to tell the story of Colton Kelly's impressive performance Saturday night at Mobile International Speedway.
Competing in the No. 18 Pave America Pro Truck, Kelly unloaded with speed from the start of the weekend, posting the third-fastest time in practice before qualifying fourth. An invert placed the Georgia driver in the third starting position for the feature, and he quickly established himself as one of the fastest trucks on the track.
Kelly never ran outside the top five during the race, patiently managing his equipment while positioning himself for a late-race charge. His strategy began to pay off on Lap 14 when he advanced into third before making another decisive move with just three laps remaining to take over second place.
With two laps to go, Kelly made the winning pass and took command of the field.
As the leaders raced toward the checkered flag, Kelly appeared poised to capture his first Pro Truck victory at Mobile International Speedway. However, while leading on the final lap, his truck got loose exiting the corner and drifted into the marbles. Unable to regain traction, Kelly made hard contact with the outside wall just moments before the finish, ending an outstanding performance and leaving him with a ninth-place result.
Despite the disappointing finish, the speed displayed throughout the evening left plenty of positives to build on.
"We had a really fast Pave America truck all night," Kelly said. "The team gave me everything I needed to race for the win, and we put ourselves in position when it mattered most. It's tough to have it end the way it did, but we'll learn from it, move forward, and be ready for the next one."
While the finishing position won't reflect the performance, Kelly's drive served notice that he has the speed to compete for victories. From a top-three practice effort to a front-running race and a late pass for the lead, the weekend showcased the continued progress being made by Kelly and his team.
Kelly now shifts his focus to Pro Late Model competition at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday, July 18, where he will look to carry this weekend's speed into another opportunity to contend for Victory Lane.
