BRASELTON, Ga. – Cole Denton made taking home all the hardware from Caffeine and Octane’s Lanier Raceway look easy over the weekend.

Racing during the springtime return of Legend cars to the venerable short track, Denton completed a clean sweep of the twin-feature program in perfect fashion with his Cole Trickle-themed No. 46 City Chevrolet car.

After setting his personal fastest-ever lap in qualifying – a time of 15.887 seconds (84.975 mph) – Denton started from the pole position in both 20-lap main events for the combined Charger and Young Lion divisions and led every lap of both contests.

The 13-year-old driver from Pascagoula, Miss., defeated Tyler Lupton by .849 seconds in the first race.

Lupton continued to be Denton’s stiffest competition in race two, but the Mississippi native edged out another win by .442 seconds, while also setting a lap time (15.809/85.394) even faster than his qualifying effort on lap 18 of 20 in the nightcap.

It maintained Denton’s perfect record of seven wins in seven features so far this season between Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway’s Thunder Ring quarter mile and Lanier’s semi-banked, three-eighths-mile oval.

His smile, however, was focused on his career performance at Lanier as much as it was because his perfect stat-line remained intact for another week.

“A weekend like we had at Lanier is what you dream of as a racer,” said Denton. “To qualify pole, start first in both races, and lead every lap along the way … you can’t do any better than that. We went in really fast in practice, and to follow that up with a personal best [in qualifying] and the two features that we had is an amazing feeling. I felt like I had some really good restarts as well and improved a lot there.

“We’re off to an incredible start so far in 2024 and the goal is always to keep it going as best we can.”

Denton would like to thank 77 Speed Shop, Matt Jones Motorsports, Race Face Brand Development, Race Face Digital, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Myers Construction Co., and City Chevrolet for their continued partnership and support.

The next scheduled event for Cole Denton Racing is March 30 at the renamed Cordele (Ga.) Motor Speedway, a 20-lap combined event for the Young Lion and Semi-Pro Legend car divisions held as part of the Georgia Pro Late Model Spring Nationals.

About Cole Denton Racing

Nicolas “Cole” Denton is a 13-year-old Gulf South racer with dreams of racing at the top level of stock car racing. From Pascagoula, Miss., Denton began racing go-karts at the age of four and advanced into Bandoleros by the time he was eight years old, where his racing brand and nickname were born.

It was in Bandoleros where Denton, a fan of the iconic racing movie Days of Thunder, adopted the No. 46 as his car number and stylized his Bandolero scheme in black and neon green – akin to the same Mello Yello colors that Tom Cruise’s character Cole Trickle campaigned in the 1990 film.

Denton quickly picked up the nickname “Cole Trickle” at his races, and the persona stuck as his racing stock climbed, leading him to continue racing under the name Cole as he advanced and found success.

His breakout season came in 2022, when Denton accrued 40 wins and 59 podium finishes in 62 starts en route to the INEX Bandolero national championship, leading him into his first year in Legend cars last season.

Away from the driver’s seat, Denton is an avid iRacer, cyclist, and push scooter racer. He also practices flying on a flight simulator and attends both local and NASCAR races as his schedule permits.
