DARLINGTON, S.C. - Ty Dillon netted his first top-10 finish of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season after surviving a wild Friday night at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

The Welcome, N.C., native is in the middle of his first season with Rackley W.A.R., piloting the team’s flagship No. 25 Chevy Silverado. A ninth-place finish marks the best of the year so far for the 32-year-old.

“Solid run for our team,” Dillon said following the Buckle Up South Carolina 200. “I think we’ve got to start with top 10s and keep improving from that. We learned a lot today and the last two weekends, we were able to run full races without problems, and we haven’t done that all year.

“We’re getting better and kind of stacking on it,” he added.

Following Darlington, Dillon gained two spots in the series standings, improving to 19th, 65 points behind the playoff cutline.

“You've got to take the positives and work off those. Know what you can work on to get better and just keep having confidence like, yeah, we have enough speed to be able to run third, you can qualify third so you know you have speed … and then you just [have] to fix your handling,” he explained. “Now, our focus this week is working on handling [because] our truck handled way better than [at] Kansas.

“We just have to keep building off of what we learned this weekend.”

Next up for the Truck Series is North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway. Dillon ran there last year in a NASCAR Cup Series car on the old surface.

However, a fresh repave and a new vehicle have Dillon feeling like he’s going in blind.

“It’s going to be a full learning curve,” Dillon said on his return to North Wilkesboro. “We get a lot of practice [though] … so it’ll be good.”

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to action on Saturday, May 18 at North Wilkesboro Speedway with the Wright Brand 250

Live coverage of the event begins at 1:30 pm ET on FS1, the Motor Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
