DACONO, Colo. – Cassidy Hinds started her Colorado National Speedway season off in solid fashion with a sixth-place finish Saturday during Lowry Insurance Opening Night at the three-eighths-mile oval.

Driving a rebuilt and recolored No. 3c Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Ford super late model, Hinds fought the handle in qualifying and could only muster the 12th-best lap, but didn’t let that deter her despite starting from the sixth row of the grid.

With a methodical drive, Hinds climbed up inside the top five by lap 17 of the 40-lap feature, battling up to as high as fourth place at one point during a series of restarts.

As cautions continued to rack up, however, the strength of her No. 3c began to fade in the latter stages. She slipped to sixth with 15 to go, but was able to maintain her place there for the balance of the race.

It marked Hinds’ best finish at Colorado National since last September – her most recent top five at the track – and a positive step of progression in both her and her team’s eyes.

“Overall, it was a pretty good day of racing,” Hinds said. “We all learned a lot about the new car and how the setups work, and my crew made it better at the end of the day than it was at the beginning of the day. I think the biggest thought I have about the CNS opener is that it’s the kind of day where you have to grow through what you go through. We knew that with the rebuilt car, it might not be the easiest go of things, but we pushed past the bumps and found a few things that I think will help us.

“We all have rough days; we just have to get through them to get better, and I think we did that over the weekend and will continue to do so.”

Also noteworthy, Hinds will graduate later this month with her Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics. She aims to continue her schooling this fall to pursue a Master of Science degree, also in nutrition and dietetics.

Hinds would like to thank marketing partners Frontier Restoration, Leary’s Shock Shop, Fort Worth Screen Printing, Commit 2 Fitness, Pineapple Pump Project, MATCO Tools, Puzzle Effects, Buckeye Welding, 5280 Pit Lighting, and the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation for their support of her racing efforts.

Following her college graduation from Metropolitan State University of Denver, Hinds will return to the racetrack Sunday, May 25 for Hilton Garden Inn Memorial Day Thunder, back at Colorado National Speedway.
