SALISBURY, N.C. – Racing in a field of nearly 200 cars over the weekend, Landon Cox made a trio of B-main appearances with the North Carolina Quarter Midget Association.

Cox participated in three classes – Senior Honda, Light World Formula, and Senior Animal – as part of the NCQMA round of the Dixie Shootout Series.

Senior Honda was where Cox showed the strongest, starting from the pole of the 25-lap B-main and appearing for much of the race like he’d be in a position to transfer on to the 40-lap finale.

Unfortunately, some small stumbles with 10 laps to go caused Cox to slip out of the top-four transfer threshold. He ultimately finished eighth in a competitive field after showing plenty of speed.

Cox finished eighth in the Light World Formula B-main and sixth in the Senior Animal B-main on a day when 195 total quarter midget entries signed in to compete at the Salisbury mini-oval.

“The results don’t tell the whole story,” explained Cox’s father Danny. “Landon showed up with speed, drive, and determination all day and with this being his first year in the senior classes, we know there will be a learning curve and some bumps along the way as he acclimates to the competition.

“He turned some heads on a challenging track that he doesn’t often get to race at and we’re excited to see his continued progression going into the summer.”

Saturday was Cox’s fifth quarter midget event of the year. He made starts in Columbus, Ohio, in January and February during the Winter Indoor Nationals, raced March 1-3 with the NASCAR Youth Series on the grounds of Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway during Pennzoil 400 weekend, and won his first race of the season on April 6 during a regional event with the Huntsville (Ala.) Quarter Midget Association.

Cox’s next planned event is April 20 with the North Georgia Quarter Midget Association in Cumming, Ga.
