Cox Grabs Win During Smyrna’s Season-Ending Little 500
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A dominant Mod World Formula victory highlighted Landon Cox’s finish to the 2024 racing season during the 23rd annual Quarter Midget Little 500 at Little New Smyrna Speedway.
In just his second-ever appearance in the class, Cox led every lap in both his heat race and the main event en route to the trophy in the prestigious event.
It was part of a five-division slate for Cox, who also competed in Senior Honda, Senior Animal, Light World Formula, and Light 160 in addition to Mod World Formula.
Across the board, Cox was competitive in each of the classes he raced in over the course of the Dec. 26-29 weekend. Perhaps his most improbable run came in Light 160, where he started second in the C-Main after winning his heat race and charged all the way through to a podium (third place) in the A-Main.
He also won his heat race in Light World Formula before finishing fourth in that class’s feature, and added a runner-up finish in Senior Honda and fourth-place result in Senior Animal as well.
Altogether, Cox’s feature tally was one win, three podium, and five top-four finishes across the five divisions he competed in during the season-ending event with the New Smyrna Quarter Midget Association. He also had three total heat-race wins and two lower-main victories.
“(Crew chief) Nick Loden gave Landon really fast cars all weekend to be able to compete for wins, and sometimes a few breaks just didn’t quite fall our way, but his Mod World Formula performance was an incredible way to cap off the season,” said Cox’s father Danny. “We’re extremely happy to take one last quarter midget checkered flag home with us and hope to build on that momentum going into 2025.
“This year’s race format was a bit different in that we ran two full heat races in each class, with the total passing points setting the feature lineups, but Landon adapted quickly and really put in strong performances across the board. We’re proud and thankful to NSQMA for giving us a place to end the year at the racetrack.”
Landon Cox would like to thank his parents, Danny and Jessica Cox, as well as Race Face Brand Development, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Ultimate QM, Baker Racing Engines, Max Papis Innovations, and Hot Rods by Buff for their support of his quarter midget racing endeavors.
Cox’s 2025 racing schedule will be announced soon.
